Unlike the sedan, the Mazda3 5-Door only comes with the automaker's 2.5L DOHC inline four with 167 hp at 6000 rpm and 168 lb-ft of torque at 4000 rpm, mated to either a six-speed manual or five speed sport auto tranny with a manual mode, and the hatch rolls on a standard 17-in wheel and tire combination. Two trim levels are offered, Sport or Grand Touring, both of which feature a wealth of standard features. Some options, such as the navigation system, rain-sensing wipers, eight-way power driver's seat, and HID headlamps, are only available for Grand Touring.
Along with the updated 2009 Mazda MX-5 roadster, the revamped 2010 Mazda3 lineup will be on display at Chicago in advance of its launch this spring, with the exception of one model -- the Mazdaspeed3. We'll see the hottest Mazda hatch next month at the Geneva show. One thing we know for sure, we won't have to coax a smile out of the Mazda3 when we're taking our photos.
